//75/ Dress: Rag & Bone Spring 2011 Campaign: Abbey

Rag & Bone Spring 2011 Campaign
Model & Photography: Abbey Lee Kershaw

//Apparently you don't need an astronomical budget to produce a fantastic campaign: Rag & Bone rounded up four of the hottest models and got them photograph themselves and voilà a truly original campaign was born (though the cost of booking the models most probably was astronomical).

//I think this is also a lovely way of for once actively involving the model and allowing her to contribute substantially. So here is the first of the models: Abbey Lee Kershaw. I love that she has chosen such intimate, unusual backdrops for her photographs.

//Oh and in case you were wondering what Rag & Bone is: average ready-to-wear stuff with some lovely pieces in between, check it out here or read the blog...

//73/ Dress/Music: Prada & Ratatat

Prada Spring 2011 Campaign
Models: Arizona Muse, Tati Cotliar, Mariacarla Boscono...

//I have been listening to a lot of Ratatat lately and then BOOM there is the Prada Campaign Video Clip and the soundtrack is Mirando by Ratatat...I think you can imagine how excited I was. Other than that I love the video, it is fun and bouncy but otherworldly all the same. I'm quite fond of the jazz-inspired clothing too and well, those colourful heels, I would kill for them...

//72/ Dress: Thrift Cape Town

Photography: Aqueelah Harron, Vivian De Waal
Styling: Gabrielle Kannemeyer, Thrift Cape Town
Models: Phelora Elle, Rebecca Olsson

//May I introduce you to Thrift Cape Town. Thrift are two girls that had the ingenious idea of taking carefully selected vintage clothing, re-doing it and selling it-online and elsewhere. How convenient! And how lovely are these photographs? They are from two separate editorials/catalogues that the girls produced. The styling is spot-on.

//The only problem is that the clothing sells exponentially fast and since it works on a first-come first-serve basis you have to be quite lucky to get the items you want. Anyway you can take a closer look on their blog or on their facebook page, where there are more lovely photographs and items that are currently on sale to be found.

//70/ Streetstyle 007

Laura from Dear Dorothy

//I took this photograph of the lovely Laura a while back at the You & Me & Everyone we know market. I adore her corkskrew curls and her exuberant nature.

//She also runs the beautiful blog Dear Dorothy and sells super cool bowties at the market (you can look at some here). Everything about her is exactly what I imagine Lily from The Devil wears Prada to be like (you will only know her from the book, she was omitted in the movie).

//69/ Film: The Tourist

//In what world is a film loaded with sex-appeal that is presented in the form of Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp not a total hit? Ours apparently. The Tourist was quite simply dull and predictable and bore far too much a likeness with Salt for Angelina to have made a wise decision accepting the role: does she really want to be remembered as the face and body that made less-than-average action movies worth watching?

//But okay if you are interested in seeing Angelina pouting and strutting all over the show and Depp doing the usual Jack Sparrow thing (somehow I always detect residual Sparrow-mannerisms) then maybe you will enjoy this. Also, Depp is playing an American and Jolie is English (cool!). Aaaaand lastly of course there are some lovely dresses that look all the better on Angelina's super-skinny (near-emaciated) body...actually come to think about it, the wardrobe kind of makes the movie worth watching, so go, watch it...

//68/ Dress: The Chloé-Céline Movement

Publication: Vogue Australia
Issue: January 2011
Photography: Adrian Mesko
Styling: Meg Gray
Model: Alys Hale

//As much as I love the work Phoebe Philo has done for Céline and the sleek, mature, clean-cut direction that many fashion-houses have taken, I feel that it is getting slightly tedious. A stark contrast inevitably awaits us. I suspect it will come as shocking colours, mismatched pattern and a general movement away from what has become almost dull and predictable.

//Having said that, I do not necessarily support a change. I appreciate that fashion has become relatively subtle and understated and in this editorial, particularly, the strength of simple and clean becomes very apparent. The clothing-mostly Chloé, Louis Vuitton and Prada-is fantastic, though I don't find the model all that beautiful...

//Yess, okay boooring...another campaign. But it's that time of year and, seriously, is she not just perfect? The remainder of the campaign will follow, I just couldn't bring myself to put both landscape and portrait images in a single post.

//64/ Dress: Chanel Spring 2011 Campaign

Chanel Spring 2011 Campaign
Photography: Karl Lagerfeld
Models: Freja Beha Erichsen, Stella Tennant

//Initially I didn't quite see how this collection could be worn in everyday life, but I with the help of this campaign the latest Chanel collection looks less dreary and stale and a whole lot more fun and youthful
(thanks Freja).

//On another note, Freja is unbelievably versatile: couture, edgy, commercial, young, mature, tough, pretty she can pull it all off. Amazing.

//63/ Prada Postcards

//These are the sunglasses I want. They are from the Prada Postcards collection. They come in different colours, each of which is named after a holiday destination (how cool?): Milan (green), Paris (clear), London (orange), Manhattan (clear and pink), Los Angeles (pink), Lisbon (black)...my preferred colour. I find them simply perfect: thick rim, classical, dark...

//You can buy them here for $225 (that is about €175 or around R1500...though in South Africa you will probably end up paying a lot more than that). I think having them shipped maybe isn't such a bad idea...shipping fees really aren't that outrageously steep.

//Otherwise, I hope that you like my illustration. I think you ought to cut me some slack seeing as it is my first. What do you think? (I added an image of the sunglasses below so that you know what they really look like).

//Who said Karolina Kurkova has horse teeth and a bird nose? Hmm?? Well I have always thought she was simply stunning and I hereby rest my case...

//61/ Streetstyle 006

//Hmmm I took this in a hurry and to be totally honest I can't exactly remember what I liked about this outfit. The top maybe? Or the bag? Or the glasses? Nothing seems exceptional. But she seemed friendly, so maybe it was her charisma...

In Back of the Real
Publication: Another Magazine Spring/Summer 2006
Photography: Stephen Shore

 //This is the Isabeli Fontana leg of the editorial (you can look at the Jessica Stam leg here). Ha she could not have been happy about featuring in a grand total of two pages when the entire spread encompassed fifteen pages!

//59/ Dress: Dior Spring 2011 Campaign

Dior Spring 2011 Campaign
Photography: Steven Meisel
Model: Karlie Kloss

//Surprisingly of all the new campaigns coming out for the season this is one of my favourite despite the fact that I don't particularly like Karlie Kloss (though she is growing on me). I like the clear island-style inspiration and the poster-like rework...

//58/ Dress: Louis Vuitton Cruise Catalogue 2011

Louis Vuitton Cruise 2011
Photography: Mark Segal
Model: Anne Vyalitsyna

//Sometimes prim and pretty seems appealing to me. Other times it is purely overbearing. In this case the excessive pink and haughty poses are almost too much. I adore 40s, 50s-inspired clothing, but here I find that the throwback is too reminiscent of a time when women were confined to the kitchen and their biggest challenge was keeping up a proper appearance...maybe I am exaggerating a little??

//Having said that there are definitely bits and pieces from this collection that I wouldn't mind owning :)
