//176/ Berlin: Karnival der Kulturen

Karnival der Kulturen 2011

//Berlin has a thriving street culture and the Carnival of the Cultures is perhaps the most representative of the city, showing its diversity of cultures. Plenty of music+millions of people+abundance of beer+sunshine= loads of fun and a mind-blowing experience.

//The beautiful blonde is my friend Jette.

//175/ Dress: Raphael Hauber

Raphael Hauber Spring/Summer Collection 2011

//While in Berlin I repeatedly noticed and loved pieces by Raphael Hauber in various stores. You know clothing is good when it keeps on haphazardly popping up in your head (which was the case here). What I particularly like about his clothing is that it is fairly complex, but looks sleek...despite some busy prints the overall look is clean. You can like him on Facebook here and be sure to look at (and read about!) this collection which for some reason isn't on his website yet.

//174/ Look 010

//My affinity for grey has not yet subsided, but here is a more colourful combination. And that is the laptop case I would have bought if I had €425 to spare. Since I don't I settled for a significantly more inexpensive, but almost equally attractive one from Jost.

//I could not decide on the top so I decided it was time to learn how to make a GIF. (Thanks Cath). Enjoy.

//PS: By now I think I would say the butterfly top is the best?

//173/ Dress: Cape Town Fashion Week 2011:Gavin Rajah

Gavin Rajah Jaipur Collection Spring/Summer 2012

//In terms of craftsmanship and originality I found Gavin Rajah's show to be the best. The clothing was just undeniably good...most of it anyway: some pieces on the other hand seemed simply horrific. It seems that when he moves away from what he does best (namely beautifully crafted, intricate dresses made of precious materials ) in an attempt to do something more outrageous, the result is somewhat disturbing and doesn't fit into the collection at all, take a look below:

//It was his rad pair of sunglasses, not his adorable smile, that caught my attention. I promise.

//171/ Dress: The One

Dolce & Gabbana DD 3062

//This, after a long search for a good pair of sunglasses, is the chosen one. Yes, you can ridicule me for purchasing an established brand and not something cool like Cutler and Gross, Oliver's People or some small, up-and-coming designer, but quite frankly this was the most versatile pair for the best price.  Next is this beauty, which looks simply perfect on.

//170/ Cape Town Fashion Week 2011 // Summary

Cape Town Fashion Week 2011 Highlights
Source: SDR Photo

//In Cape Town quality clothing and design was few and far between at the fashion show (as were high res images-sorry!) but here are some of the best looks. For some reason South African materials and finishing always look inferior and badly executed in comparison with international standards, but slowly and surely South African fashion is advancing: there are after all more than enough sources to draw inspiration from in our beautiful country. One presentation that seemed to be particularly impressing was that of David Tlale-stunning!

//In case you're wondering, I decided to do a separate post on Gavin Rajah-he is a whole nother story...

//PS// Habits: Inspired by Jil Sander much? That was the Spring/Summer 2011 Collection, how embarassing.

//169/ Streetstyle 021: Josie

Saarbrücken Straße, Berlin

//Meet the lovely Josie, who not only has a fantastic style but is also a talented designer herself...I will most certainly make sure that I photograph some of her work in the near future. Gunnar from Styleclicker also photographed her (and better at that) and unfortunately beat me to posting- take a look here.

//168/ Fashion Week Berlin 2011 // Summary

Berlin Fashion Week 2011 Highlights
Source:  Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin Newsroom

//Somewhat delayed, but nonetheless obligatory: material from the Berlin Fashion Week, which is now already two weeks ago. Instead of posting all of the designers which can be quite tedious, I selected some of my favourite looks...so here you go: the best of the best (okay not quite, there are many good outfits/designers that I have omitted-not least Augustin Teboul whom you can view here).

//Overall the Berlin Fashion Week displayed quality and craftsmanship as can only be expected by the Germans, but some designers lacked consistency and for my taste there was not enough creative flair and freakiness... Having said that I was impressed by the calibre of the fashion students from the HTW: design at its best, executed with precision and deliberation.

//I will do the same for Cape Town Fashion Week 2011 which took place last week...I was unfortunately unable to attend since I am still in Berlin.
