//319/ Pre-Spring 2014 Givenchy

Pre-Spring Givenchy Ready-to-wear 2014

//I don't know since when there is such a thing as Pre-Spring- is it just me or is the fashion industry inventing seasons to make more money???? Or are designers overflowing with ideas to the point that they have to invent pre-seasons?? Well, I'm going to go with the latter, because this is pretty damn fantastic. It's a little messed up (pink camo + flowers), a little freaky (Birkenstocks!) and a little crass (pink/red hair), but tastefully so. This is not the kind of creative that is purely looking to attract attention: it's sheer style, tailored and executed well.

//318/ F2013RTW 3.1 Phillip Lim

3.1 Phillip Lim Fall Ready-to-Wear 2013

//Every now and then I need to see some inspiring clothing that reminds me why I like (love) fashion. This 3.1 collection is one of those moments. It it not very bold, in fact it is seriously ready-to-wear unlike many of the other collections, but I love the simplicity. For me, understated clothing is sometimes much more appealing than crass colours, big shapes, daring cuts. Here, I like the embossed leather, the casual layering, the simple, texturised polo-neck dress and the beautiful print.

//317/ South African Longboard Championships 2013

Some impressions from the contest which was held in Longbeach and Muizenberg, Cape Town

Over the past week the South African Longboard Championships were held in Cape Town and I had the pleasure (and honour I suppose, but mostly pleasure) of taking part in them. Longboarding is like the more stylish older brother of shortboarding, and is possibly one of the most beautiful, enjoyable sports to watch. The SA Champs provided a platform for some of the best longboard surfers in South Africa (and the world) to show off their skills. Even though I failed epically in my own surfing (I lost both my heats), I went down to the beach every day to take in some of fantastic surfing transpiring in the water.

Apart from the surfing, the contest was a great success in terms of organisation (thanks to some very hard-working people...so much for the stereotype of lazy, relaxed surfers...). Everything ran super smoothly and one could pretty much predict when each heat would be to the minute. Longboarding also brings a kind of calmness to the beach (as opposed to shortboarding which, I find, is more aggressive) which made for a good atmosphere and attracted many spectators. I hope you enjoy the photos...their a bit blah and don't really capture the atmosphere too well but I also made a video which I will post shortly that captures it better.

//316/ Dreamy Antidote Covers

Publication: Antidote
Issue: S/S 2013
Photography: Hans Feurer
Models: Catherine McNeil, Jac Jagaciak, Daphne Groeneveld, Zuzanna Bijoch, Frida Gustavsson, Barbara Palvin, Anna Selezneva, Jourdan Dunn

//These photographs are too good not to talk about. I can't really put my finger on it, but these photographs have so much character beyond the clothing and the models. In some it is the warm light, in others maybe the composition. Having said that, the styling is really original and it's super to see different styles jumbled up (surf-skate, chic, sporty, formal...). Of course the selection of top-models really helps to complete the photographs.
