//247/ Items: Basic Survival

//Here are some things without which I never leave the house. When days get particularly daunting, it helps to have a few essentials to fall back on.

1. Sunglasses, Dolce & Gabbana. Sunglasses are super simply because they allow me to close my eyes, cry or stare whenever I want to, without seeming strange.

2. Cellular device, Samsung Galaxy SII. Angry Birds, enough said.

3.Cigarettes, Kent Nanotek. Smoking is a disgusting habit, sure, but since it´s not really a habit for me, I allow myself to indulge in these Nanoteks when I´m having an extra bad day: they taste good and the design is    attractive too.

4. Notebook, Moleskin. For drawing, taking notes, maintaining some structure in my life.

5. Headphones, JVC. As Wesley says in Wanted (one of my top movies): ...It helps to drown out the sound of your annoying fucking voice. These are mostly useful for shutting out the whiny voices that are ever-present at university. Also, of course, for music.

//246//Mary Katrantzou Fall 2012 RTW

Mary Katrantzou Fall 2012 RTW

//I wasn´t really going to review the fall shows quite yet, simply because it is far too hot here in Cape Town to be thinking about fall and in any case, there is a slight lag in trends reaching the fashion crowd not to mention the large lag in reaching the masses and the gigantic lag until it has reached the southern hemisphere...

//Anyhow, Mary Katrantzou blew my mind so much that I threw all principles out the window. Take a moment to look at the clothing carefully. It is so difficult to define exactly what is so magical about it, somehow her style is so elusive. It has a sort of subtle, psychedelic grecian feel to it. The prints are intricate and detailed without being too complicated, the colours are bright without being garish, and this time around she experimented more than ever with shapes and the effect is etheral... Compare with her previous shows here ...she is getting even better in my opinion-certainly on her way to superstardom.

//245/ Kendra for Muse

Publication: Muse
Issue: Winter 2011
Photography: Mariano Vivanco
Styling: Beth Fenton
Model: Kendra Spears

//Ugh another re-post, I am cluttering the internet with stuff that everyone has already seen! But really, this is so beautiful. It´s kind of cloudy and rainy in Cape Town today which means that Capetonians are bundled up in layers and layers of clothing (even though it is 23 degrees, go figure) and this is really what I would like to look like (in reality I am sick at home with a swollen face ha!). The styling is really quite basic but every piece in so on spot and in line with the theme of the story that it is still very interesting.

//Kendra has in spite of her unfortunate surname done some really fantastic editorials, she has fantastic facial expressions and I am excited to see a lot more from her.

//244/ Hair: Blonde Re-growth

Sources: Stockholm Streetstyle, Café Mode, The Sartorialist

//Some time towards the end of last year, after one too many `So-what-are-you-going-to-do-about-your-hair´ comments,  I was feeling less than confident about my re-growth situation so I took it upon me to gather some images of stylish people sporting re-growth.

//These images have served well in convincing me that, really, re-growth is pretty awesome and so much more interesting than single-tone...even if it is not the intentional, cool, bleached-ends, two-tone type but rather the result of conflicting decisions. So, lap it up and let yourself believe that your re-growth is, like, totally intentional....

//243/ Photography: Tacheles Berlin

Kunsthaus Tacheles, Oranienburger Straße, Berlin-Mitte

//These are from inside the art house Tacheles in Berlin, I find them particularly moving. At one point there was talk of tearing the legendary building down, but I think fortunately they have come to their senses and let this home to many artists and popular tourist attraction stand (??)
